Jewelry to be called antique should be at least 100 years old and, more recently, preowned jewelry is generally called estate.

Often antique and estate jewelry is made better and priced lower than new jewelry. In addition, like fine art, many items gain a special quality over the years from being cherished by its owners and admired by others.

About Koblenz & Co. Antique & Estate Jewelry

Merle S. Koblenz, a third generation jeweler, grew up in her family's jewelry business and has been buying and selling antique and estate jewelry since 1980 in her own business.

Merle, who obtained a Graduate Gemologist's degree in 1988 from the Gemological Institute of America, has since been a member of the GIA Alumni Association and is the current President of the award winning Manhattan Chapter. Elected "2002 Most Outstanding Chapter Member of the Year" and "2005 Volunteer of the Year" of the GIA Alumni Association, Merle is listed with the Jeweler's Board of Trade, is a Senior Member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers, a member of Association for the Study of Jewelry and Related Arts, and The American Society of Jewelry Historians.

Koblenz & Co. participates in many antique shows in the northeast US annually.

Most periods of jewelry are represented here and each item is carefully scrutinized for beauty, quality, and condition before entering the collection. Prices are based in reality as we subscribe to Auction Market Resource, The GemGuide, and others.
